Sarah Awan is a UK-raised, Lahore-based DJ and filmmaker currently studying at BNU, carving out her space as a culturally grounded and forward-thinking creative voice. Launching herself as DJ Mix Masala has been one of her most time-intensive and defining journeys—one rooted in passion, persistence, and identity.
As DJ Mix Masala, she brings back the rich, nostalgic energy of desi Bollywood and bhangra, layered with a fresh sprinkle of Afro beats and strongly influenced by UK hip hop and UK drill. Her sound reflects a cross-cultural identity—bridging the UK and Pakistan—where gritty drill rhythms meet vibrant South Asian melodies. Much like a vibrant thali filled with diverse flavors, her mixes blend global sounds with a strong foundation in South Asian music, creating something dynamic, bold, and unmistakably her own.
Beyond her sound, Sarah is actively working to build and uplift Lahore’s hip hop scene. Through her events and collaborations, she is creating a safe, inclusive space for emerging artists to perform, experiment, and be heard—especially those who are often overlooked. Her platform isn’t just about music; it’s about community, representation, and giving new voices the confidence and stage they deserve.
Through her work, Sarah positions herself as more than just a DJ—she is a woman making a meaningful cultural impact, staying authentic to her heritage while reshaping contemporary music spaces with her unique voice.
